I'm ready - I can make pita!!

On Thursday Allix and I went to Kathy's apartment and had our first "cooking lesson." Kathy is teaching us to make some traditional Bosnian dishes. This week we mad pita (yummy!!!) - two different kinds: meant, onion and potato; and apple. They turned out pretty good. I guess here once a girl knows how to make pita she is ready to get married. Lol. According to the guys who tried our dish I am now ready... now all I need to do is find a guy who can chop wood, take care of a fire, and dig a trench and I'm set! Bobo told me that I need to make sure I actually SEE the guy doing these things and not just take his word, cuz believe it or not some people lie!

After our cooking lesson we had our mentoring time with Petula. We are doing a devotional working through the book of 2 Timothy. We are also doing a book called Ministering Cross Culturally. It is a really good book, very insightful and interesting. I'm finding it helpful in not only understanding some things here/back home, but it kinda explains why certain things are frustrating me. Then we had our language lesson. I really don't feel like we know that much Bosnian, but when I actually look at all the words and phrases I know (and the amount of time I have been here), I do know quite a bit. This lesson was basically a review, plus working on time and asking someone out for coffee.

Thursday nights are our English conversation group nights. This week we had 3 people (not counting me, Allix, and Petula). It was good - we talked about ethics and should the government be allowed to pass certain laws (for example: having to wear your seatbelt in the car, or a helmet while riding a bike or motorcycle...). It was interesting hearing some of their thoughts, because life is different here than it is back in the States. One thing I thought was really interesting was that everyone said that they DO NOT want to be equal with men (there were only women this here week). They felt very strongly about that too. Also just talking about little differences here and in America - like car insurance (here is doesn't matter your age or gender, the price is determined by the car), or medical insurance (they think the way we handle all of our insurance stuff in the United States is stupid).

On Friday we went to a museum in town. I like museums so I had a good time. Then we spent the afternoon shopping for things for our Thanksgiving banquet (we are having a Thanksgiving banquet for the students in our English class and a few other people here. I'm super excited cuz I LOVE Thanksgiving and I was originally sad that I was going to miss it this year).

OHHHH, and interesting fact: the high score on Bop-It only goes up to 250. Bobo and I had a competition going, basically to see who could keep the high score, and the thing maxed out at 250. Sad. Now we need to think of something else. haha
