Bosnian Wedding

So there was a wedding today. We spent pretty much all day at the church helping get ready for it (we made platters and platters of food). Then the wedding itself was interesting. It started out with a guys doing the welcoming and greeting. Then the maid of honor and best man came out, followed by the bride and groom. But they didn't go up on stage. We had a time of worship - the band was on stage and it was like worship at church, except for it was in Bosnian (although we sang the same songs we sing back home, so I at least knew what it meant). Then a guy went on stage and gave like a 10-15 minute sermon on love and God's love and what that means. After that the bride and groom went up and they did their vows and exchanging of the rings (very similar to the states). Then they did the whole "you may now kiss the bride..." And once they did that a bunch of their family/friends joined them on the stage and surrounded them and took turns praying for the couple. Then the bride threw her flowers (has the same meaning here as it does in the states). And then it was the 'reception' where people ate the food that we made and hung out and talked.

I think the most frustrating thing is not knowing the language. It is hard cuz everyone knows how to speak English, but they will only speak it if they are specifically talking to me. So all day we were working on the food platters in a room full of women and they were all talking and I had no idea what they were saying. So frustrating. Then at the wedding, first of all I didn't really know anybody and second of all I had no idea what anyone was saying. Lets just say it was very uncomfortable. Hopefully it gets better, I'm sure it will... once I start meeting people and making friends and all.
